There are three things to think through when choosing the right photographer for your family:

The experience you want

The images you envision

The investment you can make

November 2013 #-12

Think first about the experience you want to have. “Relaxed”, “more fun than I expected”, and “so much easier than I thought” are all compliments I receive from my clients during our sessions. Even grooms, new dads, and exasperated mothers of toddlers have expressed delight at the patient, playful, and calm experience of shooting with Red Turtle Photography.

After our sessions, when we meet to review your proofs, clients tell me “The pictures are even better than we  imagined”, “thank you for helping us select the right images for our home and family”, and the excitement around picking art and albums makes the meeting almost like a little party. When your art and albums arrive, and you receive them, packaged beautifully like a present you’ve given yourself, you open them – hang them on the wall or slowly flip through the soft pages of the album – and enjoy the pictures of your family for days and years to come.

“Thank you for your expert handling of our little guy, for being so patient with us as new parents, and getting those amazing pictures!”

“Our photo book was so sweet and perfectly captures the memories of our baby’s first days.”

“Sitting with a glass of wine, adoring all the pictures of our little girl, only made us more excited for the framed prints on their way after our ordering session with Katie.”

The images you envision are key to the kind of shoot you will plan with your photographer. Are you thinking of soft, dreamy pictures with a vintage look, or bright, snappy shots with lots of action? Pictures in the soft light of your living room, or outdoors in the golden afternoon light?

Our amazing local area offers an abundance of fantastic locations for photography, from parks alongside the Potomac river, lush formal gardens, wide opens spaces (yep, even in the city!) and unique architecture to compliment the look you have in mind. With nearly eight years experience shooting in the DC area, I can probably recommend the perfect location for the pictures you have in mind. Visit my portfolio and take a look at the style you can expect from a shoot with me.

Planning for your investment in photography is worth every penny. When I say “invest”, I mean that – a professional photographer with a consistently beautiful portfolio and a good business style is worth what they are charging. Investing in a beautiful image created by a skilled artist brings returns that last your whole life, so put aside the funds you need to hire the artist you want. With Red Turtle Photography you can expect to spend between $800-1600, depending on the items you most want, whether that is albums, canvas wraps, or digital files only. These are your permanent memories for display in your home, and to pass on to your children one day. It’s a well-deserved indulgence to engage a professional photographer and purchase archive-quality artwork and albums. You might just find you love it!
