{sneak peek} Welcoming baby Clara | Washington DC Newborn Family Photography

What can I say about this family? I am so lucky to get to work with them over and over – seasons change and their family grows and I have had the joy of sharing so many sweet, beautiful moments with them. None sweeter than welcoming baby Clara with a newborn portrait session. Here are a few sneak peeks – I can’t wait to share more with her mama, daddy and big brother!

{sneak peek} Clara’s Fall Morning | Washington DC Children’s Mini-Sessions

I was so happy when Andrea contacted me to ask about a family mini-session. I photographed Clara’s newborn pictures, and two more sessions in her first year. It’s been about a year now since I last saw them and it was wonderful to see how Clara has changed, yet stayed the same as when I first met her at just around a week old! Look at her now – all grins and giggles and pigtails.

Fall light. Golden leaves. Adorable boy. Balloons.

That is the recipe for one of the cutest mini-sessions I’ve ever had the joy of shooting. Jonthan overcame his shyness fast when presented with nearly enough balloons to lift the UP house off the ground. But he kept his feet on the ground and a grin on his face. And the light, oh the light.

Fall is the best season of all!

{sneak peek} Elizabeth, beyond the headshot

I’ve known Elizabeth for several years now, mostly keeping in touch via Facebook, and loved her frequent photographs of early morning beauty on walks along the river, with her beloved puppy Pete, and posts about her adventures traveling. She is also an accomplished yogini and teacher of yoga and meditation. For her {Beyond the Headshot} session, we focused on images that display her strength, beauty and joy in yoga, which she’ll use in her marketing, web and social media. We also captured some beautiful lifestyle portraits that outshine the typical headshot.

Photographing new babies is one of the most wonderful parts of my job. Being welcomed into my client’s homes and cuddling those new little people; watching new siblings kiss, poke and puzzle over the strange but somehow appealing intruder; entering the time warp of newborn world, where things move at a different pace and everyone is at best a little bit sleepy… these are magical moments.

I met Sara, Tony, and Ava a year ago for Fall Mini Sessions and had an amazing shoot with them. I was so happy to hear back from them shortly before Lucas’s arrival, to schedule his newborn photos. I got to see their gorgeous new Takoma Park house – which is filled with the kind of soft beautiful light photographers get giddy over.

Picking what to show in their sneak peek is NOT easy — I’m so excited to show them everything. Till then, everyone enjoy a few pictures of Lucas and his family.

I met Jenny and Charlie in the spring of 2013, when Ryan was just a little guy! Now he’s a big brother to Bryce, and we created their first portraits as a family of four. I just loved the sweet interaction between the boys, and Ryan’s contagious good spirits.

I can’t wait for Jenny & Charlie to see the rest of their photos – they’re going to have gorgeous holiday cards for sure!

Oh. My. Goodness.

I always aim to make genuine connections with even my littlest clients, and especially with toddlers who are experiencing the world so intensely. Forging a little friendship goes a long way toward capturing beautiful images of children. When they trust you, they show you their true selves.

But I seldom have that friend-making repaid as heart-warmingly as happened with Sam. At the end of my session with Sam, his sister Anna and their awesome parents, Sam said, in the earnest way only a 4-year-old can: “Everytime that we come to here, I want you to be with us.”

Oh man. You got it, buddy. I’m there.

Here are just a few of the gorgeous pictures I got to create for this fun family:
